Overall, 34 nurses (response rate 72%, one excluded) and 93 care workers (response rate 38%), who worked in Tokyo, Osaka and Hiroshima prefecture were analyzed. Seven medical care-situations were examined. They include; providing medication, taking blood pressure, tube-feeding, removing drop infusion, extracting of feces, intra-tracheal suctioning, and bedsores care. As a result, more than 90% of the workers practiced those medical cares as part of heir daily tasks. Especially, intra-tracheal suctioning was found to be the most frequent medical care provided by the care workers. They were afraid of unforeseen medical incidents and errors. Consequently, the care workers felt that those medical situations should be the responsibility of registered nurses. On the other hand, nurses thought that care workers could do the medical care along with the nurses.
