A revised four-factor model，excluding the two reverse-coded (positive) BIS items，and a five-factor model，which included these two items as another factor，showed a better fit than the original four-factor model. Internal consistencies also were higher for the revised BIS scale. The BAS scales tended to show insufficient internal consistencies. ANCOVAs indicated that: (1)the BIS scores varied more by gender，but the BAS scores varied by race/ethnicity; (2) African-Americans scored lower on the BIS scale，an d the Japanese scored lower on the BAS scales，compared to the other groups; and (3) the BIS/BAS ratio tended to be lower for African-Americans and significantly higher for the Japanese.
