内容記述 | The measurement properties of the Behavioral Inhibition and Behavioral Activation Scales (BIS and BAS;Carver & White,1994) were examined for five racial/ethnic groups of young adults in the U.S. and Japan; Caucasians,African-Americans,Hispanics born in and outside the U.S. (n = 459,4 31,489 and 384,respectively),and the Japanese (n = 398). A revised four-factor model, excluding the two reverse-coded (positive) BIS items, and a five-factor model, which included these two items as another factor, showed a better fit than the original four-factor model. Internal consistencies also were higher for the revised BIS scale. The BAS scales tended to show insufficient internal consistencies. ANCOVAs indicated that: (1)the BIS scores varied more by gender, but the BAS scores varied by race/ethnicity; (2) African-Americans scored lower on the BIS scale,an d the Japanese scored lower on the BAS scales, compared to the other groups; and (3) the BIS/BAS ratio tended to be lower for African-Americans and significantly higher for the Japanese. Also for the Japanese,th e correlation with extraversion was higher for the BIS/BAS ratio than for any of the BIS/BAS scales, suggesting an important aspect of the BIS/BAS balance in the understanding of the relationship of temperament and overt personality traits. | |||||||||
