| 内容記述 | The purpose of this study is to clarify the secret teachings of Ittō-Ryū, one of the ancestor schools of Japanese kenjutsu styles, referring to “Ittōsai Sensei Kenpō Syō 一刀斎先生剣法書 ））”. This study adopts the following procedures. First, it reviews what Ittōsai Sensei Kenpō Syō” is, such as the author, the contents, and philosophical backgrounds of the work. Next, it reviews what jiri (事理 ) is that greatly influenced Ittōsai Sensei Kenpō Syō”. Finally, the secret teachings of Ittō-Ryū are clarified. Ittōsai Sensei Kenpō Syō” is one example of samurai writing (literature) that has a great influence on not only modern kendō but also other Budō after its publication. From the beginning of a document, the secret teaching of Ittō-Ryū, such as No-Sword (無刀 ), No-Shape stance (無形 ), No-Distance, the metaphor of moon and water (水月の比喩 ), the Death-Dealing Sword (殺人剣 ) and the Life-Giving Sword (活人剣 ), are explained based on jiriitchi (事理一致 ), the dharma world the unimpeded interaction of matter and principle. Jiriitchi is originally the fundamental idea of Kegon philosophy (華厳哲学 ) and it means thing and principle unity; the relative and absolute, the phenomenal world and the true nature of reality, the many and that which is devoid of distinction. That is why technique and principle are like two wheels of a cart, No-Sword, No-Shape, No-Distance, the Death-Dealing Sword and the Life-Giving Sword are established. Today, many Budō practitioners around the world are eager to know the spirit and philosophy of Budō. Also, the School’s Curriculum Guideline of Health and Physical Education in Japan specifies that traditional thinking and culture of Budō be taught in Budō class. The secret teaching of Ittōsai Sensei Kenpō Syō” emphasizes not only physical training, but also consciousness-controlling skills, and further, Budō practitioners are told to become jiriitchi. Here, a person who have come to jiriitchi is not a person who strives for victory in competition or honor in Dan (rank). In the end, the secret teachings of Ittōsai Sens Kenpō Syō” are directed toward a moral completion and enlightenment. As a result of the above, Ittōsai Sensei Kenpō Syō” is considered to be one of the most important textbooks for understanding the essence and the secret teachings of Japanese traditional Budō. | |||||||||
